Analysis of Early Urban Societies Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Analysis of Early Urban Societies - Assignment Example According to (Wilsons, 14) most people moved to cities seeking jobs. The majority of those who moved to cities were from smaller communities considered minority. The migrants came from within America and from other surrounding continents such as Africa and Asia. Those from Africa were mainly from western and northern African countries. On the contrary, those living in the cities from majority groups found a reason to move back to the suburbs because of the introduction of new methods of farming. The new farming methods included the use of machines that enabled them to plow large sections of land over a short period of time, the use of fertilizers that increased productivity and the implementation of new farming techniques that ensured the conservation of land. The use of machines, however, had a negative impact on the employment of the African Americans who were working in the in the farms since they were replaced by the machines. The technology was introduced in farming and this made it a very lucrative (Henderson & Thisse, 65). It led to the rapid development of both the urban cities and the rural towns which were now growing due to the farming. This movement of the opposites had a big impact on the social, political and economic aspects of the society. The government has a very limited base for its revenues because the majority of people in the cities who were better financially had moved to suburbs. The city was hence left with a large a population that was less qualified and less productive. This left those in cities jobless because majority depended on majorly on those who left for low paying jobs. The people who were their employers and had professional qualifications had left for the suburbs. Poverty and desperation among the unemployed youth led to an increase in criminal activity in the cities (Wilsons, 23) Ã

The term masculinity can be defined as the set of traits or characteristics typically for men. There are arguments to the word ââ¬ËMasculinityââ¬â¢. It is independent of the understanding that man is connected to masculinity. Like men can be feminine, women can be masculine. It is the nature of masculinity is what makes someone masculine, not their gender. (Masculinity movie) Masculinity can be divided into degrees of comparison- more masculine or most masculine. ââ¬ËCrisis of Male Identity in ââ¬ËFather, Son and Holy War,ââ¬â¢ Rustam Barucha in Economic and Political Weekly, Vol. 30, No. 29, July 1, 1995. BIBLIOGRAPHY Man, manhood, masculinity the terms are closely related to each other. Does one ââ¬Ëbecomeââ¬â¢ a man or is he born one? Are ââ¬Ëmenââ¬â¢ necessarily masculine? ââ¬Å"Indeed is explained that some men may reject their masculinity on ideological or sexual grounds. It is often assumed that homosexuals for example are not men they are feminine. Yet gay and homosexual cultures, however unofficial, are marked by strong masculine codes. So masculinity in these cases becomes a style or representation? Thus to answer the relationship of masculinity to other nouns of man and manhood the basic element of purusatva applying to Indian men should be considered. Four Star Case Study Essay
Four Star is a mattress manufacturer known for a focus on quality, productivity and customer service. In order to meet market demand from customers as well as competition Four Star increased proliferation of mattress varieties offering a total of 230 different model types at one time. This change caused Four Star to experience operational issues and bad inventory management, resulting in low profitability and productivity. Of the many problems faced by Four Star, proliferation of mattress varieties and its impact on operations and inventory management is their biggest issue. This has had a major impact on the things that Four Star once prided itself on: quality, productivity and customer service. Having 230 product variations created extremely long order fill rates resulting in a loss of customers and created a great deal of customer dissatisfaction. There was also added pressure placed on Four Star employees to fill orders. Having so many unsatisfied employees put Four Star at risk for loosing employees which would add additional stress to the production process. In addition, large dealers who would typically sell and inventory Four Star products began limiting the number of mattresses stored due to their inability to predict which of the 230 varieties a customer would purchase. Instead, LDs would wait until a customer placed an order to request inventory from Four Star. Upon order placement LDs expected fast inventory arrival which is the level of service they were used to getting but due to the stress placed on the Four Star manufacturing operation they were having trouble filling orders. This resulted in dealers no longer committing to placing orders with Four Star. Four Star took on the burden of carrying inventory which was an additional expense for the organization placing added stress on the overall manufacturing process. Four Star soon began to see decreased sales revenue. Sia Meng considered several options to smoothly manage its operations. The first option was to reduce the number of mattress models manufactured back to 40 or 60, levels at which the company produced in 1996 and 1998. This would be a very effective solve to the issues being had with Four Star since historical data shows that revenues and customer satisfaction levels were up and the company was not experiencing such turmoil in its manufacturing. In addition, it has also been proven by the behavior of the dealers that there are too many mattress varieties. Reducing model levels would help increase revenue. Another option being investigated by Sia Meng is to insist on aà minimum order size by dealers. This requirement from dealers would help streamline the order and production process and allow Four Star a window of opportunity to fulfill orders within a reasonable timeframe and increase customer satisfaction. The last option being considered is to reduce safety stock requirements for finished mattresses. This is not a viable option for Four Star. The company is already having major issues and relocating would not fix the internal turmoil that exists. Below are my recommendations for how Four Star can reconfigure its product design, manufacturing and order fulfillment process. Product Design Four Star should begin all mattresses with the same basic design and alter the product to meet customerââ¬â¢s needs. This could include adding more coils and the quilted cover depending on the customerââ¬â¢s request. This would allow Four Star to inventory and produce a limited number of materials needed to produce a mattress because all mattresses would use the same basic formula with modifications. For example, if Four Star received an order for one of its premium mattresses, the number of coils added to the mattress would be adjusted accordingly as well as the quilted cover. Doing so would reduce the fill rate and limit frustration of employees working on the production line as they would be working to produce a less complicated product with less moving parts. Manufacturing It is recommended that Four Star keep its facility where it is currently to work out the production issues they are experiencing before determining whether moving to another location would be more lucrative. There are currently too many other issues looming with the production line to isolate any one main cause for the issue. To Order Fulfillment To improve the order fulfillment process it is recommended that Four Star enforce a minimum order quantity on its dealers. Doing so may initially increase inventory costs for Four Star but the long term benefits could outweigh this short term frustration. Enforcing a minimum order quantity would also allow dealers to set better expectations with customers and increase customer satisfaction.

Essay about Julius Caesar Superstition, Sacrifice,...
Superstition is considered a myth to most people, but for the ancient Romans, this was a historical belief. For the Romans, believing in superstition was a very ordinary thing. To them superstition explained the supernatural and strengthened their relationships with the gods (The Roman Empire). In the play Julius Caesar, the author William Shakespeare uses superstition repeatedly to affect the plot as well as the characters. Superstition in the play is used to foreshadow Caesarââ¬â¢s death, impact Brutusââ¬â¢ actions in the battlefield and to emphasize the Romanââ¬â¢s connection to superstition and fate. One of the biggest superstitious beliefs in Rome at that time was the power to see the future; which Caesarââ¬â¢s future was to die. Julius Caesar wasâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This form of writing and effect was found very entertaining for people of the theatre during the Elizabethan times (Alchin). Without superstition, and the culture beliefs of the public back the n implemented into the play, nobody would have watched or read Julius Caesar, thus making it a failure. Superstition is not something used to only foreshadow events, but it also has a key effect on the characters and the actions that they take. One of the most notable characters that have been affected by superstition was Brutus. Brutus was a man who was a friend of Caesar and as the play went along he joined Cassius in the scheme to murder their leader, Caesar. After Caesarââ¬â¢s death Brutus was drowned with subconscious guilt and was visited by Caesarââ¬â¢s ghost. The ghost was a manifestation of Brutusââ¬â¢ guilt and it told Brutus that they will meet in Philippi. Due to this superstition, Brutus believed that he was meant to die to meet Caesarââ¬â¢s ghost, so he committed suicide after the battle (5.5.55). This showcases the importance of superstition in changing the characters actions and affecting their lives. By creating the ghost of Caesar, Shakespeare not only shows the effect superstition has on Brutus but highlights Brutusââ¬â¢ beliefs and how he would commit suicide for his belief. This act by Brutus sets the tone for the play which is one of the main reasons why the play is considered a tragedy. Without Brutus, the play would not be a tragedy, because Brutus

William Shakespeare s Hamlet Prince Of Denmark
Hamlet Prince of Denmark is one of the key plays that gives the audience an insight into human character. William Shakespeare chooses to focus on the influence of peopleââ¬â¢s emotions on their actions, rather than their rationality. In the play, the melancholic Prince Hamlet, chooses to avenge his murdered father by killing his uncle who marries his mother and assumes the throne. Although the plot is simplistic, it shows how Hamlet undergoes considerable emotional stress before exacting his supposed revenge. Traditionally, audiences characterize Hamlet as a hero because of the sympathy that his situation attracts. However, a deeper analysis reveals Hamlet as a selfish and immature person whose death is necessary in order to bringâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Horatio, or I do forget myselfâ⬠(I.2.160), he implies that he spends considerable time in his head that he has almost forgotten the face of Horatio. Although the statement is an exaggeration, it paints Hamlet as a self-absorbed character who interacts with people in a rather impersonal sense. Given his conversation with his mother and Claudius in the second scene of the first act, Hamlet is only interested in interacting with people as an audience to his ideas. Hamletââ¬â¢s self-indulgence contrasts with the simplicity and humanity demonstrated in Ophelia. Ophelia is disinterested in philosophical contemplation and her life is constructed externally through the love of people around her, especially Hamlet. Ophelia is uninfected with the pessimism of Hamlet and tries to see people as made up of goodness rather than corruption. In the beginning, although Ophelia is attracted to Hamlet, Polonius and Laertes warn her not to see Hamlet because they believe he is selfish. When Ophelia converses with Hamlet, Hamlet renounces that he never loved her in spite of the fact that he harbors a romantic attachment to the girl. The progression of the play makes the audience discern that Hamlet is using the girl as an outlet for his rage against his society. Hamlet is bound to distress Ophelia with his cynicism and the inability to appreciate love from the people around him. In the end, Hamlet causes so much
